NICK IVINS
Born in Kent 1966, lives and works in Lyme Regis and Rampisham Down, Dorset, England. Ivins paints in oils as well as acrylic on panels and stretched canvas, often at both extremes of scale.
He also paints (perhaps more benignly) these wave and light patterns. Those shown are painted in the studio and are derived from smaller studies made in the landscape - on a stone jetty projecting out into the ocean. The jetty is absent but implied in ‘Crash’ 2023, which features ultramarine wave sets clashing as a result of interference created by the unseen jetty.
In ‘Pontoon’ 2023, an off centre structure depicts partially submerged stone slabs whilst fingers of a floating pontoon emerge amidst ‘zips’ of interlocking light and waves towards a horizon.
