Director’s cut Gaucho Ninja Leather Belt

‘Living museum’ Veg Tan Leathers, an artisan heritage of Spain since 1887.

‘Axe-breaker’ tree bark tanned full grain leather 4 to 5 mm thick.

The Gonzalez family factory worked for five generations using technology prior to the WWI.

The master tanner Genaro Gonzalez is the last of his lineage.

The leather is tanned using quebracho bark and mimosa bark.

The characteristic reddish colour is completely natural and will grow old to darker tones (see 7th photo).

Using only hand tools for the whole process, we create this classic and elegant belt guaranteed for life. The belt is made out of full grain leather.

This means that the skin has been through minimum processing before being turned into leather.

So that marks from the animal’s life, scars or scratches for example, will be present in the final product.

You can trace each step of the journey of this beautiful product.

Crafted by hand, the whole belt is carefully made to the most detailed finish.

Before reaching you the sides of the belt were carefully finished with natural shellac polish.

Having been designed, cut and riveted by the finest craftsmen and women in a small hand built workshop deep in the Herefordshire countryside.

This leather is tanned in the traditional way in Spain by the master tanners using traditional tools and methods tried and tested over many generations.

These craftsmen are elders, in the true sense of the word, whose knowledge and skills come from their forefathers.

The result is a material that industrial methods cannot accomplish.

Each leather is unique, your eyes will delight in the different tones and depth of colour. Each shade reminding you of the grace of a moving animal.

Leather is a by-product. Animals are not killed for their skins. By using leather products your ethical conscience can rest assured that you are making exceptionally good use of what would otherwise be waste.

For many of us the aroma of naturally tanned leather brings a feeling of wellbeing. In a world filled with highly processed materials all our senses appreciate this.

Add to this the traditional tanning technique using bark from the ‘quebracho’ (axe breaker) tree and you have a stunning reddish colour that deepens and enriches over time and usage.

By buying a product so closely connected to the dynamic life of the natural world you are buying a product that will change as you change, evolve and you evolve.

For yourself or as a special gift you will feel as if you have bought something both essential and luxurious, irreplaceable and exclusive. Treatment for the leather is recommended once a month using the Gaucho Ninja leather conditioner provided.
